Introducing my experience with the Saltyverse and my students

Recently I introduced the Salty Sharks Platform to students. It was wonderful to see the reaction of students underlining the potential power of this Immersive learning tech to enhance education.

🐋I had the pleasure of introducing this amazing resource to students in a Year 4 class last week and it was so wonderful to see the excitement and joy on their faces! The faces of children engaged, so excited and happy to learn again 😀

“WOW this is totally awesome! The words of one of the year fours. I think this pretty much sums up the many responses that I heard from the students. I was struck by student engagement and excitement, as soon as they started exploring the various exhibits within the Salty Sharks environments. Word quickly spread around the classroom and there was a buzz of excitement, as other children wanted to get in on the Salty Sharks experience.

My thoughts on the what I observed

As a Teacher of more than twenty years, it has been a long time since I have seen this level of excitement. This is thanks to Robert Keanalley and his team, who have created this valuable immersive resource, which could transform the teaching curriculum around the ocean.

The Mission of the Saltyverse

Salty Sharks is not only educating students and families about Marine life, but also building much needed awareness about marine life conservation. After all, the oceans are the life support system of our planet and it’s so important that we all do our bit. Awareness is a part of this process and the younger the better. This is precisely the goal of Robert Keanalley and his team who are super passionate about their mission to raise awareness of marine life conservation.

Cost and accessibility

These affordable Virtual & Interactive Aquarium based science education and marine conservation resources are on an educational platform which can be accessed using any device. PC, Mac or VR goggles. Therefore it is within the reach of any classroom or home. The prices start from as little as ten dollar per month. It is very much worth it for Science education resources that really supercharge student's learning, retention and engagement!

Kids engage with technology from a young age. Reading Eggs, Maths Seed & other online learning apps have become the norm. The evolution continues so you can now take their skills playing in virtual worlds like Fortnight & engage them in virtual worlds of education.

Encouraging them to seek out information on the biology & ecology of species in the virtual world will set them up for success by encouraging them to drive their own education. Education in an interactive format will stay with them for longer with visual, auditory & experiential reinforcement.

The platform includes self- paced & interactive learning environment. Fun interactive games and quests. The content is curated by Marine researchers and suitable for ages 9-Adult, students can even complete a beginner's course in marine biology that will capture the hearts and minds of future biologists, rangers, researchers, and scientists.

The platform was recently featured at The World Science Festival 2024 and attending students and parents raved about it. It’s now recommended by The Homeschool Education Network ( Australia)

Each Exhibit focuses on a specific marine animal (Manta Rays, Whale Sharks, Sea Turtles + more coming).

The Turtle Beach Exhibit

In the Turtle Beach Exhibit you can learn about the biology & life cycle of the seven different species of Sea Turtles and some of their unique characteristics such as navigation, determination of new hatchling sex, diet, and what makes them so important to our ocean

eco-systems.

Through NPC audio, video presentations, quests and interactive elements you can experience the important life cycle of sea turtles and learn how you can help make a difference to not only protect important sea turtle nests but help ensure the ongoing survival of as many hatchlings as possible as we seek to save these endangered species. You can also play fun Sea Turtle games.

The Whale Shark Station

At the Whale Shark Station you can watch high definition video of these marine species in their natural environment while you read and listen to informative audio facts.

You can explore the exhibit at your own pace, with your own custom avatar, even changing the avatar to suit your preferences as you guide your own learning experience.

The Mantra Ray Shoals Exhibit

At The Exploring the Manta Ray Shoals exhibit, you will learn about the ecology, diet, habit, reproduction, biology & environment of Manta Rays and the Marbled Sting Ray as well as listen to and read fun facts about this amazing marine species.

You also have the opportunity to watch high definition videos of these marine species in their natural environment while you read and listen to audio facts.
